A: Transfer presses are often used for textile finishing, where flock foils, flex films, toner transfers, screen printing transfers or other media are pressed onto textiles. There are various types of transfer presses. The most common are folding and vibrating presses.

A: The heat and steam from an iron is also used to adhere fusible interfacings to parts of fabrics that need stability. Solid surface pressing equipment uses a firm surface to apply pressure while steam and heat mould the fabric, garment or garment parts. Pressure may be applied through a rolling action, gliding action or compression.

A: Pressing or ironing is the most important finishing process in the readymade garments sector which is done by subjecting a cloth to heat and pressure with or without steam to remove unwanted creases and to impart a flat appearance to the garments. Pressing or ironing is also done to introduce creases in the apparel.

A: The golden rule is to never cross a seam until you've pressed it. In other words press each seam, tuck or dart before you join it to a seam or piece of fabric. This doesn't mean you have to press each seam immediately after sewing.

A: Basic tools are the iron, ironing board and press cloth. A steam iron is convenient but a dry iron used with a press cloth and moisture sometimes gives a more satisfactory press. The ironing board should be adjustable to your height, smooth and well padded. A clapper flattens fabric without burning or scorching and leaves a flat crisp area with no shine. Clappers are used to “hold” the seam in place while the fabric cools.
