Main Components
1. Screen Frame: A rigid frame (aluminum, wood, or steel) that holds the screen in place. Screen frames come in a variety of sizes to accommodate different print sizes.
2. Screen: The stencil carrier whose mesh count (number of lines per inch) determines detail-high mesh counts (e.g., 300+) for fine designs, low mesh counts (e.g., 80-150) for thick layers of ink.
3. Scraper: A scraper (rubber, polyurethane, or metal) that scrapes ink across the screen. The hardness, angle, and pressure of the scraper can be adjusted to control the transfer of ink.
4. Substrate Fixing System: A fixture, vacuum cup, or platen (flat surface) that holds the substrate in place during printing to prevent it from moving and ensure alignment.
5. Ink Supply System: A reservoir or tray that delivers ink to the screen. Some machines come with an automatic ink supply to ensure a steady flow of ink.
6. Drying/Curing Unit: Optional, but critical for ink adhesion - uses heat (conveyor oven), UV light (for UV inks), or air drying to "set" the ink and prevent smudging.
